UPM MENINDAS PELAJAR SENDIRI! BATALKAN HUKUMAN GANTUNG SATU SEMESTAR LEE SONG YONG !
Gabungan Anak Muda dan Pelajar (GAMP) membantah sekuat-kuatnya tindakan pihak pentadbir universiti yang mengemukakan hukuman gantung satu-semester yang tidak munasabah terhadap Lee Song Yong.
Lee Song Yong, seorang pelajar tahun kedua Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) yang mengikuti kursus Sarjana Muda Sains Komputer, telah digantung satu semester atas keputusan Pihak Berkuasa Tatatertib Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) pada Khamis 22 November 2007 setelah beliau didapati bersalah di atas tuduhan tidak memberi kerjasama, mempertikaikan tugas Pengawai Keselamatan dan menghalang Pengawai Keselamatan tersebut daripada menjalankan kerja, kewajipan dan fungsinya.
Kejadian berlaku pada 22 Ogos 2007, dimana Lee ditahan di pondok pengawal enggan memberi begnya diperiksa kerana tidak dapat penjelasan daripada pegawai keselamatan. Pegawai Unit Tugas Khas yang datang kemudian serta tidak beruniform telah merampas Kad Matrik dan buku nota Lee dengan kasar dan tanpa persetujuan Lee. Lee telah membuat laporan polis pada hari yang sama dan aduan terhadap pegawai keselamatan juga dibuat di Bahagian Keselamatan tiga hari kemudian.
Pihak pentadbir Universiti tidak mengambil tindakan terhadap pegawai keselamatan yang salahguna kuasa dan tidak hormat kepada hak dan privasi (privacy) mahasiswa malahan menuduhkan Lee tidak berkerjasama dan mempertikaikan pegawai keselamatan dua bulan selepas kejadian berlaku.
Hal ini telah menunjukkan bahawa pihak pentadbir universiti menyebelahi pegawai keselamatan tersebut. Hukuman gantung jelas menunjukkan mereka ingin mewujudkan perasaan ketakutan, risau di kalangan pelajar dan hendak pelajar tunduk kepada kuasa pihak pegawai keselamaan yang tiada batasan.
Walaupun Suruhanjaya Hak Asasi Manusia Malaysia (Suhakam) sudah membuat permintaan supaya prosiding ke atas Lee digantung sementara Suhakam menjalankan penyiasatan terhadap dakwaan berlaku perlanggaran hak asasi manusia oleh pihak UPM. Pihak pentadbir Universiti masih mahu meneruskan prosiding dengan tergesa-gesa dan jatuhkan hukuman pergantungan atas Lee.
Prosedur perbicaraan ini juga jelas menampakkan perlanggaran hak asasi ke atas pelajar terbabit. Bukan sahaja Lee diserahkan notis yang singkat menjelang perbicaraannya hingga menyukarkan beliau membuat persiapan, bahkan Lee turut dinafikan hak untuk diwakili oleh peguam pilihannya yang mana ini adalah satu perlanggaran terhadap right to counsel yang diperuntukkan oleh Perkara 5 (3) Perlembagaan Persekutuan.
GAMP menyeru pihak pentadbir UPM membatalkan hukuman yang tidak sah terhadap Lee, mengemukakan prosedur pemeriksaan pegawai keselamatan, dan mengambil tindakan ke atas pegawai-pegawai keselamatan yang menyalahgunakan kuasa.
GAMP juga berpendapat bahawa, fenomena sedemikian disebabkan oleh penyerahan kuasa yang terlalu besar kepada pihak pentadbir universiti oleh AUKU, ia menyebabkan kes penyalahgunaan kuasa pegawai keselamatan universiti sering berlaku, dan menyebabkan ruang demokrasi universiti semakin merosot serta hak mahasiswa tidak dijamin. Kualiti universiti semakin merosot disebabkan mahasiswa disekat perkembangan mental yang kritikal dan kreatif.
Ini jelas ditunjukkan oleh kedudukan UPM dalam 200 Universiti Terbaik di Dunia yang dikeluarkan Times Higher Education Supplement (THES) dua minggu yang lalu. Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) yang tidak pernah masuk kedudukan 200 yang tertinggi, malah jatuh 72 tempat, dari Ke-292 tahun 2006 sampai Ke-364 tahun ini.
Maka GAMP menyeru pihak Kementeruan Pendidikan Tinggi untuk mansuhkan AUKU dengan segera, agar demokrasi kampus dan kebebasan akademik dapat dijamin, dan ini merupakan langkah yang terpenting untuk menyelamatkan kualiti Universiti yang semakin hari semakin merosot.

TENT CITY PROTEST - Summer 2008
Students and activist are starting to make plans for a summer of Tent City Protest to stop the U.S. attack on Iran, to end the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan while showing that we can create world free from domination, coercion and violence. Thousands of people are making plans to set up a tent city outside the White House and Capital Buildings in Washington D.C, as soon as final exams are over this May. Food Not Bombs has been asked to provide food and logistics. Activists are also planning to organize Tent City Protests outside military installations, federal buildings and U.S. embassies. All peace and social action groups are invited to join in the tent city protest.
There is a vigorous debate about what strategy might work to end the crisis caused by the war on terrorism. Rallies, marches and petitions haven't done enough to stop torture, secret prisons, the use of Cluster Bombs against civilians, wire tapping and data collection, laws such as the Military Commissions Act and the Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act of 2007. At the same time actions to protect the environment healthcare, education and housing haven't been successful. One strategy that has proven effective had bringing positive social change has been the tent city protest.
Food Not Bombs volunteers have participated in a number of successful tent city actions. In 1989 San Francisco Food Not Bombs provided meals 24 hours a day at a 27 day tent city protest for the rights of the homeless. The city government opened a shelter, a hotel and reduced the use of police to attempt to drive homeless people out of sight. Food Not Bombs volunteers provided meals to protesters at the tent city protest outside the Ukrainian Parliament during the Orange Revolution. The tent city caused the Prime Minister to step down. Food Not Bombs shared meals with activists at 300 day tent city action at a protest to support farmers at Bosnia and Herzegovina Square in Sarajevo. For thirty days Food Not Bombs volunteers organized the kitchen, collected food and cooked meals for the protesters a Cindy Sheehan's Camp Casey outside Bush's Ranch in Crawford, Texas. Many local Food Not Bombs chapters are talking with other activists to start planning this summer's tent city. BELA NASIB PEKERJA
Sementara negara ditenggelamkan dengan isu-isu perkauman , isu-isu asas seperti hak kaum pekerja dan cabaran kehidupan harian rakyat biasa telah ditolak tepi. Dalam keadaan ini, hari ini Gabungan Pekerja Kilang dan Kesatuan, JERIT telah membangunkan senator-senator di Parlimen dengan memberi bantahan terhadap Pindaan Akta Perhubungan Perusahaan dan Kesatuan Sekerja yang mencabul hak lebih 10 juta pekerja Malaysia.

Lebih kurang pukul 11pagi, satu delegasi wakil Gabungan Pekerja Kilang dan Kesatuan, JERIT telah ke Parlimen untuk mengingatkan Senator-Senator yang bersidang dalam Dewan Negara hari ini supaya jangan menyokong pindaan akta yang akan membawa padah kepada pekerja. Pindaan dalam kedua-dua akta iaitu Akta Perhubungan Perusahaan dan Kesatuan Sekerja ini telah pun diluluskan di Dewan Rakyat pada 28 dan 29 Ogos 2007. Sekarang ia telah dihantar ke Dewan Negara untuk kelulusan.
GPKK, JERIT menuntut supaya semua senator membantah pindaan dalam kedua-dua rang undang-undang ini. Tetapi apabila para delegasi sampai di depan Parlimen, mereka tidak dibenarkan masuk ke dalam. Pengawal Parlimen pula menyuruh para delegasi untuk menunggu di pondok pengawal dan menelefon orang-orang besar di Parlimen. Selepas beberapa ketika, pengawal peribadi seorang Senator datang untuk mengambil memorandum yang hendak diserahkan kepada semua senator. Para delegasi enggan menyerahkan kepadanya dan menuntut untuk berjumpa dengan mana-mana pegawai di peringkat atasan yang dapat menyampaikan tuntutan kami dengan jelas kepada para senator..
Setelah desakan demi desakan diberi, akhirnnya Datuk Zamani Sulaiman, Setiausaha Dewan Negara turun ke pintu hadapan Parlimen untuk menerima memorandum dan berjanji akan memberi salinan-salinan memorundum kepada semua Senator.
Memorandum sudah disampaikan. GPKK telah membuat usaha terakhir untuk menuntut agar pindaan ini diberhentikan. Sekiranya pindaan ini diteruskan , maka 10 juta pekerja akan mengalami akibat buruk. Sudah tiba masa pekerja bangkit dan sedar bahawa parlimen tidak memihak kepada rakyat. Perlulah pekerja turun ke jalanraya menuntut hak mereka.

RAKYAT TURUN LAGI! INTIMIDASI KERAJAAN TIDAK BERJAYA
"Kerajaan kata demonstrasi bukan budaya Negara kita. Polis kata perhimpunan aman adalah haram dan lancarkan OPS PADAM 2 untuk mematahkan kebangkitan rakyat. Akhbar arus perdana pula membuat 'survey' yang menunjukkan kononnya rakyat Malaysia tidak menyokong hak berhimpun."
Ini adalah keadaan di Negara kita sejak 10 November lalu apabila rakyat Malaysia turun ke jalan raya menuntut hak mereka. Propaganda negatif pihak Kerajaan dan penangkapan dibuat untuk menakut-nakutkan rakyat. Pemimpin dan penyokong BERSIH dan HINDRAF dimangsakan.
Dalam situasi ini, lebih 400 orang yang mewakili dari 51 kumpulan masyarakat, organisasi bukan kerajaan (NGO), anak muda dan pelajar, parti-parti politik telah berhimpun di Suruhanjaya Hak Asasi Manusia (SUHAKAM) mempertahankan hak berhimpun rakyat.
Perhimpunan yang diinisiatifkan oleh Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) dan Jaringan Rakyat Tertindas (JERIT) mendapat sokongan pelbagai pihak yang percaya bahawa hak berhimpun adalah hak asasi rakyat seperti yang termaktub dalam Perlembagaan Persekutuan Perkara 10. Di atas landasan ini satu Gabungan Mempertahankan Hak Berhimpun telah ditubuhkan demi menuntut hak rakyat yang kian dicabul oleh pihak berkuasa.
Perhimpunan yang bermula pukul 11 pagi, dimulakan dengan ucapan pembukaan oleh S.Arutchelvan Setiusaha Agung PSM. Program yang diacarakan oleh Sdr.Sivan dan Sdr.Badrul diteruskan dengan ucapan-ucapan dari wakil kumpulan masyarakat. Masyarakat ladang diwakili oleh Sdr Sugu, Peneroka Bandar oleh Sdr.Noralizan, Anak Muda dan Pelajar oleh Sdr. Simon Ooi. Kemudian wakil dari parti politik Dr.Nasir dari PSM, Pak Sabu dari PAS, Sdr Sivarasa dari PKR, Sdr Ronnie Liu dari DAP telah menyampaikan pandangan masing-masing mengenai hak berhimpun.
Tidak ketinggalkan Sdr Amer Hamzah dari Majlis Guaman Negara dan Sdr Malik Hussein dari MAFREL telah berucap. Ke semua mereka telah menekankan hak berhimpun adalah hak asasi dan hak demokrasi setiap rakyat dan dijamin oleh Perlembagaan Persekutuan Mereka telah mengecam niat jahat kerajaan dengan menggunakan intimidasi, ugutan dan penggunaan undang-undang zalim seperti Akta polis 27 dan salahguna Perintah Mahkamah Majistreat dan iklan-iklan di media massa yang mencabul hak rakyat Malaysia yang berhimpun secara aman.
Penyerahan Memorandum dimeriahkan lagi dengan sebuah persembahan oleh kumpulan anak muda, Food Not Boms (FNB) yang bertemakan kebebasan dan hak rakyat untuk berhimpun secara aman. Sejurus selepas persembahan Sdr. Arutchelvan telah membacakan tuntutan-tuntuan Gabungan Mempertahankan Hak Berhimpun Rakyat iaitu:
- Hak Berhimpun di bawah Perkara 10 – Perlembagaan Negara
- Menyokong pendirian SUHAKAM dalam mempertahankan hak berhimpun dan pemansuhan Seksyen 27 Akta Polis
- Membantah segala tindakan pihak Kerajaan dan Mana-mana Kumpulan lain yang berniat untuk mencabul hak berhimpun rakyat secara aman
Gabungan ini menyeru SUHAKAM untuk menyiasat dan mengambil tindakan terhadap penyalahgunaan kuasa ini. Pesuruhjaya SUHAKAM Dato Denison bersama Dato Sivasubramaniam dan Tan Sri Asiah Abu Samah telah menerima memorandum dari Gabungan Pertahankan Hak Berhimpun.
Perhimpunan yang penuh bersemangat dan aman ini berakhir tanpa sebarang masalah. Walaupun kebelakangan ini banyak penangkapan dan ugutan ISA dibuat oleh kerajaan atas nama perhimpunan haram, namun perhimpunan ni berjaya memecahkan tembelang dan sekaligus memberikan mesej kepada kerajaan bahawa rakyat pasti akan turun ke jalan untuk menuntut hak mereka walau apapun halanganya.

Ke semua mereka telah menekankan hak berhimpun adalah hak asasi dan hak demokrasi setiap rakyat dan dijamin oleh Perlembagaan Persekutuan Mereka telah mengecam niat jahat kerajaan dengan menggunakan intimidasi, ugutan dan penggunaan undang-undang zalim seperti Akta polis 27 dan salahguna Perintah Mahkamah Majistreat dan iklan-iklan di media massa yang mencabul hak rakyat Malaysia yang berhimpun secara aman.
Penyerahan Memorandum dimeriahkan lagi dengan sebuah persembahan oleh kumpulan anak muda, Food Not Boms (FNB) yang bertemakan kebebasan dan hak rakyat untuk berhimpun secara aman. Sejurus selepas persembahan Sdr. Arutchelvan telah membacakan tuntutan-tuntuan Gabungan Mempertahankan Hak Berhimpun Rakyat iaitu:
- Hak Berhimpun di bawah Perkara 10 – Perlembagaan Negara
- Menyokong pendirian SUHAKAM dalam mempertahankan hak berhimpun dan pemansuhan Seksyen 27 Akta Polis
- Membantah segala tindakan pihak Kerajaan dan Mana-mana Kumpulan lain yang berniat untuk mencabul hak berhimpun rakyat secara aman
Gabungan ini menyeru SUHAKAM untuk menyiasat dan mengambil tindakan terhadap penyalahgunaan kuasa ini. Pesuruhjaya SUHAKAM Dato Denison bersama Dato Sivasubramaniam dan Tan Sri Asiah Abu Samah telah menerima memorandum dari Gabungan Pertahankan Hak Berhimpun.
Perhimpunan yang penuh bersemangat dan aman ini berakhir tanpa sebarang masalah. Walaupun kebelakangan ini banyak penangkapan dan ugutan ISA dibuat oleh kerajaan atas nama perhimpunan haram, namun perhimpunan ni berjaya memecahkan tembelang dan sekaligus memberikan mesej kepada kerajaan bahawa rakyat pasti akan turun ke jalan untuk menuntut hak mereka walau apapun halanganya.

COMMITMENT RECORDS
Commitment Records is a straight edge hardcore label, based in The Netherlands.
The label was started in 1996, and over the years has released 7" records by bands like Vitamin X, Pointing Finger, Reaching Forward, Hoods Up, Fight For Change, One X More, Fairfight, Product X, GuidingLine, Oil, Infect, GuidingLine, The Miracle, The Silver Shine, The Age, Second Combat, When Seasons Change and more.
History
Commitment Records was started in July 1995 with two goals in mind: to be a means to distribute 7" records of small American and European labels and beginning Straight Edge bands in Europe and to release records of Straight Edge bands with a positive attitude.
The Straight Edge movement was at its height in the beginning of the Eighties (1980-1983) and a second boom took place at the end of the decade (1987-1989) with a lot of new bands, labels and fanzines. In the beginning of the Nineties the Straight Edge trend was over.
Later in the Nineties a new style of Straight Edge developed, with bands that were more militant than most of the bands of the '80's and with a music-style that became more and more influenced by metal. The attitude of a lot of these socalled 'new school Straight Edge hardcore'-bands was not positive at all: this was reflected in their lyrics (sometimes really apocalyptical), the artwork of the records (dark, with a lot of demons and images from the Middle-ages) and even in the dancing style (violent).
From 1995 on, some new young Straight Edge bands came up, both in the USA (Halfmast, Envy, Plagued With Rage) and Europe (Mainstrike, Rectify) that got their inspiration, both musically and lyrically, from the 80s bands. Inspired by this development Commitment Records was started.
Commitment Records wants to provide an opportunity for new or unknown bands, who combine the Straight Edge message with a positive attitude, to release (7") records. As a start (and this policy is still in force in 2007) Commitment Records is only doing 7"'s records. The 7" is the cheapest format to make (or buy) records, and that's the reason we think it needs to be supported.
Ideology
Commitment Records considers itself a Straight Edge label and will limit itself to releasing records by Straight Edge bands, at reasonable prices.
For the people involved in Commitment Records Straight Edge means more than just not drinking, not smoking and not using drugs. In our eyes these are just necessary conditions to be able to strife for the really important things: creating a society, based on mutual respect, without prejudice, hate and ignorance; working for a world without the big differences in welfare which exist nowadays, a world where humans, animals and the environment have priority, and not economic growth and monetary considerations.
There is no place for hardline attitudes, racism, sexism, homophobia, nationalism, satanism and machoism (including violent dancing !) in Straight Edge.
Releases up to now
In 1996 Commitment released its first record, a live-EP of Youth Of Today , with recordings made during their show in Amsterdam, in 1989. We released this 7" for three reasons. In the first place because we had a live-recording of Youth Of Today at our disposal, which perfectly captured the atmosphere existing in the European hardcore scene at the end of the Eighties, at a time when the Straight Edge scene in Holland, Belgium and Germany was at its peak. In the second place the ideology of the band Youth Of Today has a lot in common with the ideology from which Commitment Records was started: Straight Edge, positive thinking and awareness of the wrongs of this world. In the third place, by releasing a record of a very popular band, we were able to bring Commitment Records to the attention of a lot of people.
In 1997 Commitment Records organized a positive sXe-festival in Amsterdam, and as part of this festival, a double-7" was released with the 8 bands that played on the festival (among those By The Grace Of God from the USA, Mainstrike from Holland and Spawn from Germany). The festival was the first hardcore-show in Holland with a non-smoking policy and besides that, was a benefit for a refugee aid organisation. The festival was a big succes - including the bands, more than 200 people visited the festival.
Since the end of 1997, Commitment released 7"'s by a bunch of young sXe-bands from Holland and Belgium: Oil, Vitamin X, GuidingLine, Soberesponse, X-Men, One X More, Reaching Forward and Product X.
After a short break, Commitment Records released three new records in the Summer of 1999: the debut-7" of Kids Like Us from Norway and new 7"'s by Vitamin X from Amsterdam and One X More from Belgium.
In the autumn of 1999, these three releases were followed by two other releases: the "Hit The Line Hard"-compilation featuring four positive HxC/sXe-bands from Northern Carolina and Atlanta: Reinforce, Until Today, No Comply and One Way and the new 7" of Product X from The Netherlands.
The first release in the new Millenium was the debut-7" of Fairfight, positive sXe-HxC from Utrecht, The Netherlands. Around the same time, the re-release on The Return Of The X-Men compilation was also finally done - on one 7" now, featuring different songs of Oil and GuidingLine and without the Spawn-song. The record starts with an intro by Rob Pennington of By The Grace Of God. The layout was done by Robin of Oil, and features many photos taken on the festival.
At the end of the Summer of 2000, the world wide straight edge compilation, More Than The X On Our Hands, was released. This compilation, a box set with six 7"'s, contains 41 straight edge band from 41 different countries and a 52-page booklet with a short introduction on the history straight edge, a comment by Ian MacKaye on the start of straight edge, and lyrics, bands information, photos, etcetera. This compilation will also be put out on tape or CD or various other labels all over the world.
In April 2001 Cross Me, a German-France straight edge band, debuted with their first regular release on Commitment. Later that year, the debut-7" was released of Fight For Change, one of the many straight edge bands out of the active Portugese sXe scene.
In the first 2 years of the 2nd millenium, the number of releases on Commitment have not been as numerous as in the last 2 years of the 1st Millenium. But this will change in 2002. In March, the second 7" of Fairfight was released, and this was followed in June by the first South American band with a release of its own on Commitment: Infect from Brazil. This is also in other aspects an unique record: never before had a Commitment 7" so many songs (13). Besides, the Infect record is the first record that contains songs that already have been release before (in Brazil, to be precisely), and Infect is the first Commitment band with female members (after 5 years, it's about time...). In the second half of 2002 two more records were released: 7"'s of On A Solid Rock and Pointing Finger.
2003 gave Commitment one release: the debut-7" of North from Rotterdam.
The second half of 2004 brought two new releases: the compilation "Forever In Our Hearts", to celebrate the 25th release of Commitment, and 7" by The Age (formerly known as Second Age) from Poland.
In 2005, Commitment has released three records. First, in the beginning of January, the debut-7" of The Miracle 7", was released. The Miracle is a fairly new band from the Milan area, but with people that have been around for a long time, playing in bands like Fumbles In Life and Shotgun Foundation. The 7" contains the three songs of the promo they recorded in the Summer of 2004, and three new songs, that they have been recorded in the autumn of the same year. Six songs of powerful and heavy old school hardcore, with lyrics that deal with scene related, personal and political issues.
Second, there was the third and, unfortunately, final 7" of the Portugese vegan straight edge band Fight For Change. Due to all kind of misfortunes, it took the band very long to finish the recording and mixing of the songs of this 7", but the final results are for sure worth the wait. Fight For Change got the opportunity to record in a professional studio, as one of their members was working there, and that led to by far the best produced the stuff the band recorded so far. The 7" contains seven songs (around 15 minutes of music!) of fast youthcrew hardcore, with lyrics that reflect on straight edge, the hardcore scene and the larger world in general. The record is a benefit for the Animal Liberation Front. The 8 page booklet contains explanations of the lyrics and reflections of the band on the state of the world, and especially the animal rights issue.
Third, at July the 30th, the debut-7" of The Silver Shine was released as Commitment 29. Although the members of The Silver Shine have their roots in the Hungarian hardcore scene (and are still an active part of it), this 7" is in fact the first non-hardcore Commitment release. The sound of this trio (vocals/guitar, upright bass and drums) can be described as a mixture of psychobilly and punkabilly, with some hardcore, country and punkrock influences thrown into the mix for good measure. The lyrics deal with the usual psychobilly stuff (you know, the same subjects that are handled in classic horror movies from the 1950s and 1960s), but also with the dangers of the addiction to drugs - which reflects the straight edge lifestyle of all members of the band. The record is a benefit for a local group that helps addicted people to give up their addiction and start a new life.
On October, 24, 2006, two new Commitment releases have seen the light of day.
First, the long awaited new record of Malaysian youthcrew straight edge veterans Second Combat. Six songs of old school straight edge hardcore, with an original twist.
Second, the debut 7" of When Seasons Change from Italy. When Seasons Change started in 2004 as Nothing To Hide and changed their name in 2005 to When Seasons Change. After two demo's (one as Nothing To Hide and one as When Seasons Change) their first official release is out: a six song EP on Commitment.
2007 was a very active year for Commitment, with 4 new releases. The first was the debut 7" of Hamburg's positive straight edgers Hoods Up, that was released on March, 2nd, 2007 and presented on the annual Light The Fuse fest in Hengelo, The Netherlands, one day later. The record sold out of it's initial pressing of 500 pieces in two months.
The second was the debut-7” of Up Rights, a straight edge band from Toulouse, France. Uprights is not exactly new on the scene, as they played their first show in October 1996, being formed that same year after the break-up of Conform Choice. Mainly inspired by the late 1990s wave of European straight edge bands, Up Rights play fast, energetic and melodic old school hardcore and couple it with a message of drugfree pride and positivity, while taking a stand against the evils of today’s hardcore scene, like violent attitudes, fashion slavery and MySpace addicts.
The third was the debut-7" of Turn The Tide. Turn The Tide started out as a project in October 2006, when people involved in several other Finish hardcore bands, decided it was time for a straight edge band playing traditional hardcore in Finland again, as such a band had been lacking since the breakup of On A Solid Rock. Although Turn The Tide take the inspiration for their sound clearly from the classic youthcrew bands, their sound also contains elements of melodic punkrock and even classic rock, with raw production adding an extra sting. Shouted by a voice that sometimes brings Ian MacKaye to mind, the lyrics on their debut-7” are reflections of everyday life and relations with other people: greed, love, self-confidence and personal choices and growth.
The fourth, released just before Christmas, is the debut-7" Resolve, a five-piece straight edge band from the St. Louis, MO-area, that plays pure late 1980s youthcrew hardcore, in the classic style that bands like Youth Of Today and Turning Point made big. The songs are fast, energetic full of catchy singalongs and deal with life from a positive perspective. Lyrics about the meat industry, the power of oil corporations in the USA, intelligent design, but also about being different and making a positive change, shows Resolve that the band has some importants thoughts to share.
2008 will bring new releases of Birds Of A Feather (five song 7"), Take Control (6 song 7") and F.P.O. (6 song 7").

FRANCE scene-report!!!

Here David, from France! I make the diy label Kawaii rds, and write the french zine Mononoke. This is a scene-report about punk hardcore in France… Sure, it's not complete (coz there're many bands, labels…), but I think you can fine many contact here! FTX are from my area (Nevers city), and plays for soon 10 years. After a start like RAISED FIST, SHUTDOWN or MISCONDUCT, they made moved their super oldschool HC, powerful and energetic, worms of the tricks like CARRY ON, CHAMPION, BETRAYED, WHERE FEAR AND WEAPONS MEETS… they have already several discs (demo, split, mcd, album). One of the best band of the style, in France, and can be even in Europe! They make sometimes cover of SOIA, GORILLA BISCUIT or COMEBACK KIDS. These guy organise some HC show in their city.

NINE ELEVEN, band from Tours, born from ashes of NO TIME TOO LOSE. They have a very personal and innovative style. Very modern HC oldschool, where the band privileges the melody and the intensity. The titles are very worked, with full chorus of guitars! Sometimes near to COMEBACK KID, BACKSIGHT, MILE AWAYS… Really unique. They have a MCD, a 3xway Split CD, and a very new album, which seems slightly harder. They also manage the FreeEdge festival (and label of the same name).

FIRE AT WILL of Montpellier east one of the good surprise of the moment! HC oldschool very positive and melody, with an energy out of the common run and a strong desire of communication with the public. Their singer (a truth frontman) also manages the label Eternalis rds. I would locate them between BANE and BETTER THAN A THOUSAND! A MCD of available, and participation in various compile.

BACKSIGHT are from South of France (Avignon), and practical with brilliance, a very modern hardcore oldschool, alloy effective of melodies, mosh and fast part. The influences are near BANE, COMEBACK KID, NO CHOICE ONE THIS MATTER, FC FIVE, STAY GOLD… They have just made a European tour, with Malaysian band SECOND COMBAT! HARDCORE / OLDSCHOOL / NYHC…
FTX are from my area (Nevers city), and plays for soon 10 years. After a start like RAISED FIST, SHUTDOWN or MISCONDUCT, they made moved their super oldschool HC, powerful and energetic, worms of the tricks like CARRY ON, CHAMPION, BETRAYED, WHERE FEAR AND WEAPONS MEETS… they have already several discs (demo, split, mcd, album). One of the best band of the style, in France, and can be even in Europe! They make sometimes cover of SOIA, GORILLA BISCUIT or COMEBACK KIDS. These guy organise some HC show in their city.

NINE ELEVEN, band from Tours, born from ashes of NO TIME TOO LOSE. They have a very personal and innovative style. Very modern HC oldschool, where the band privileges the melody and the intensity. The titles are very worked, with full chorus of guitars! Sometimes near to COMEBACK KID, BACKSIGHT, MILE AWAYS… Really unique. They have a MCD, a 3xway Split CD, and a very new album, which seems slightly harder. They also manage the FreeEdge festival (and label of the same name).

FIRE AT WILL of Montpellier east one of the good surprise of the moment! HC oldschool very positive and melody, with an energy out of the common run and a strong desire of communication with the public. Their singer (a truth frontman) also manages the label Eternalis rds. I would locate them between BANE and BETTER THAN A THOUSAND! A MCD of available, and participation in various compile.

BACKSIGHT are from South of France (Avignon), and practical with brilliance, a very modern hardcore oldschool, alloy effective of melodies, mosh and fast part. The influences are near BANE, COMEBACK KID, NO CHOICE ONE THIS MATTER, FC FIVE, STAY GOLD… They have just made a European tour, with Malaysian band SECOND COMBAT! RANTAI ART EVENT
rantai art event 2007.
those who live near kl area, feel free to come to MIA art house gallery near pelita klcc for the annual art celebration, rantai art event 2007. this time around, rantai will feature every line of art from graphic design to performing art, from photography to visual screening. change ideas, expand your view on current art scene in malaysia. the 5 days event will expose new faces, new talents, the name you've never heard of, showing their best line of works, playing their best tunes, expressing their thoughts in every form of art. exhibitions will start on 12th until 16th of december and will take place inside MIA Arthouse (the red building) while on 15th and 16th, bands will be terrorizing the party with their killer sound. indie clothing company will be selling self-printed tshirts, button and badges, shoes, artworks and many more. grab your favourite indie band stuff here too, cds, stickers, teeshirts etc. mark these date on your calendar, tell your family members, email your friends, call your girlfrend/boyfriend, make sure that they dont miss this once in a year wonderful celebration of art!
